Why do you need Employee Internet Management ?

Letters: Enterprises Often Need To Filter Employee Internet Access
By Mitch Wagner

I work for a manufacturing company with about 4,000 PCs that have access to the Internet. We are finally beginning to filter employee usage of the Internet. Our Internet bandwidth was almost 100 percent utilized before we began filtering. This bandwidth was purchased for the intended purpose of doing company business over the Internet, e-mail in particular, but also accessing the Internet for research purposes, downloading necessary patches and software updates, etc. What we began to see while monitoring usage with the filtering tool was streaming radio, use of file sharing programs (Kazaa, for example) to download MP3 and MPEG files, and a whole lot of non-business surfing.
